Conference
2012 European Health Management Association (EHMA) Annual Conference

Focus:    Health care management
Location: Kursaal Bern Hotel, Bern, Switzerland
Dates:     13th Jun 2012 to 15th Jun 2012

In 2012 the EHMA Annual Conference will focus on the involvement of private sector funders and providers in public health care. Many health systems across Europe are altering the role of the private sector in public health care, for example through contracting with private providers and using private finance initiatives.

At a time when systems are looking for ways to control costs and drive up quality, it is often argued that private sector involvement is an important lever for change. But is this right, and how can funders, policy makers, health leaders and managers navigate the changing health care environment to deliver the best care possible for patients?

The conference is intended to explore the opportunities and challenges that the involvement of the private sector brings to those funding and managing service provision.

Within the conference we will be exploring three aspects of this:

  1. the system and policy challenges;
  2. the management challenge of mixed public and private sector provision; and
  3. the role of participatory healthcare.

The celebration of 10 years of the Guidelines International Network (G-I-N) will take place at its birthplace in Berlin, Germany, on 22-25 August 2012. The conference is a joint project between G-I-N, AEZQ and AWMF.

The specific theme for this year’s conference is "Global Evidence – International Diversity". In this context, strategies and successful examples of international collaboration will be addressed. The programme is currently being finalized. Four hundred abstracts have been received across 44 countries and the Scientific Committee aims to ensure that the diversity of the international audience is represented across all sessions.

Major topics will be latest developments in defining standards of quality of guidelines, in the methodology of creating the evidence basis for guidelines, in patient involvement in guideline development and in implementation and knowledge management. The inspiring programme will comprise plenary sessions, workshops, panel sessions, short oral presentations and posters, all provided by an international panel of invited speakers and abstract submitters.

G-I-N conferences are a perfect opportunity to meet and network with new and old colleagues across disciplines from all over the world who share our daily challenges. They are a unique venue for worldwide sharing of knowledge and experience about guideline development, dissemination, adaptation and implementation. We hope that you will join us and use this occasion to develop and strengthen lasting collaborations with people from a wide range of countries and organizations.
